Artificial life USB

Artificial life USB

Ever since I discovered John Conway’s “Game of life” I have been obsessed about the interesting patterns of such a simple algorithm. A few weeks ago I decided to design a USB toy capable of running the game of life on a tiny 8×8 LED Matrix. This is what I came up with. I think the gadget turned out pretty good. I will  launch a crowd-funding campaign this week so I can produce a small run of these. Here is …

Permaduino CAD Files

Permaduino CAD Files

February has been a very busy month with the crowd-funding campaign of Permaduino. The Campaign was not successful. It only reached 25% of it’s Goal. I guess Arduino users are more into shields and pre-built than building their own circuits in a permanent board. However I received great feedback from many of the 100 backers. That encouraged me to work a little bit more on the Boards and now I can release the files for the board and the …

Permaduino on Engadget!

Permaduino on Engadget!

A few days ago I woke up late and checked my email. I had 85 new messages from Indiegogo (they send you and email every time a contribution is made to your campaign). I knew right away that a very popular blog had published something about my project. Form my surprise it was engadget! This is what they wrote about permaduino: “Arduinos are fun to tinker with, but there’s one problem. Once you’ve built something cool, …

Indiegogo campaign for permaduino

Indiegogo campaign for permaduino

Indiegogo is an international crow-funding platform. You can find projects to crow-fund in several categories. I posted the project in the Technology category. There’s a ton of projects out there but every new funder we get gets us closer to the spotlight. (Currently on page 7 out of 16) The difficult part is getting your project to take off. I’m cashing in favors and begging my friends in order to increase the amount of funders …

Meet Permaduino

Meet Permaduino

Arduino is by far the simplest, fastest and coolest way of tinkering with electronics and prototyping. However, it doesn’t take much time for  the skilled users to get frustrated by the platform limitations. After all, Arduino was designed to help non technical users prototype the technical part of their ideas. And since that is not changing any time soon, most passionate tinkerers are constantly looking for IDE add-ons, new hardware options aka. “arduino clones” or they go vanilla AVR with AVR Studio …

Product Review #1: Components storage box from Seeedstudio

Product Review #1: Components storage box from Seeedstudio

Because today was such a busy day I decided to do a quick product review post. Today I will review the small boxes SeeedStudio offers for storing small SMD components. They are available here and they cost $2.00 USD per pack of 5. (Yes $2 for 5 boxes, thank you shenzhen). I decided to purchase 4 packs of these tiny boxes along with my last PCB order. I figured that for $2 dollars I couldn’t expect much. …

Arduino vs Raspberry Pi

Arduino vs Raspberry Pi
